Metro Area Walleyes

With the heat wave coming through southern Minnesota, the water temperatures warmed quickly, making the metro walleyes very aggressive as they put on the feedbags in preparation for the quickly coming summer conditions. I caught a lot of walleyes slowly trolling weed-lines and pitching jig/minnow combinations like I was fishing for bass. I caught most of my fish in 10-12 feet of water and the hottest combination was a 1/8-1/4oz chartreuse jig head tipped with a fathead. The walleyes were feeding heavily on the schooling and spawning fatheads and our catches showed that as the ones that we did keep had fathead minnows already in their gut.
